The world of fashion is full of wonderful things. Some of them are nice, and the rest could be... well, quite bizzare. As a fashion enthusiast I'm pretty sure you are all fascinated by the enchantment of the pretty, nice, cool, and edgy stuffs. And don't forget about that unique piece of something that you're not even sure what it really is. But here's the thing, how often do you ask yourself, "Do I need this?". I bet it's not really that often! The same thing happened to me not so long ago. For some reason I managed to control myself. Now, what I want to share with you is something that has helped me for quite sometime. No to worry! I'm not gonna torture you with any kinds of absurd self limitation or anything. It's just a simple trick to help your wallet a little bit ;)
So, I'm sure most of you watched Confessions of a Shopaholic. Therefore, you must be familiar with the opening scene in which Isla Fischer described that there are two types of price. Well, my principle is much similar. As you grow older, you will realise that the two types of price principle is true. In case you never watched the movie, the two types of price principle is a way to describe the stuffs that you're going to buy.
The first type is what I call the "Oh so pretty!". It's the kind of stuff that will put a spell on your eyes and gives you this uncontrollable urge to buy it. It seems like you worship this thing and you just can't stop thinking about it for days or weeks maybe. But then you ask yourself, why can't I get that gorgeous little precious?? Because it's FRIGGIN EXPENSIVE! That's why! Yep, truth hurts. He just stabs you right in your heart. And then you're startig to consider buying it anyway. You know what? At this point you won't even notice how it would feel against your body, or even how it would look on you because you're just so blinded by its gorgeousness. But be very careful because sooner or later you will look at that thing that has been sitting long enough in your closet, wondering why you haven't been wearing it or using it that much, and then you're starting to try it on again and there it is.. BOOM! It doesn't feel comfy at all! and what's worse is that the material is not what you thought it was. Yeah, it sucks. But hey, at least it gave you a different kind of satisfaction when you bought it. Well, what I'm saying is, although it is kind of pretty it's not alway worth the price and the suffering. Those things are just the ones that feed your pride, things that are only good for show but not actually good for you. So being selective is the rule number one of shopping.
Now the second type is the one that refers to the "mommy price", which is the stuff that is cheap but lasts as long as you can remember. This kind of stuff is the one that you won't even care if it gets dirty or the colours fade or whatever. Because usually it doesn't look so good that sometimes you're event reluctant to wear it in front of your friends because you know that they will make fun of you. But the tricky part is, most of the stuffs that belong to this category is the ones that are so comfy. Now, this is the fact that is contradicting your whole paradigm of fashion because being fashionable is about looking really good right? So wearing the mommy price stuffs won't do you any good because in the world of fashion, people don't really care about comfy stuffs. So you often ask yourself, "why do I even bother buying this if I'm not even gonna be able to wear this in front of my friends?". Well the answer is very simple. You can wear this kind of stuff for everyday use when you're doing dirty activities, or activities that require lots of movements in a long period of time. So in my opinion, it's kind of worth having this stuff around when you don't have to look your best. So rule number two is always consider the mommy price.

Seeing these facts may or may not got you thinking that it's kind of difficult choosing stuff to buy or to wear. On one hand, you want to look good in every opportunity you got, but on the other hand you also wanna feel comfortable in the things that you wear. So here's a bit of a solution that I found along the way. There are good quality things with the look that will satisfy your eyes as well. But then again, the price is kind of suffocating. But the good thing is, these kind of stuffs are worth it. No matter how suffocating the price is. Therefore it is okay to have one, two, or a few of these stuffs in your closet. Of course, you can't be cheap about it.
Well, as I always say to myself, life is about having balance between things that you want and things that you need. So just try to have balance when you're shopping between the "oh so pretty!", the "mommy price", and also the worth to suffocate stuffs. Have a little fun, buy those pretty stuff, but also indulge your body with comfortable stuffs. Because life without balance is a lot worse than no life at all. Cheers! :)
